Well guys, if you live anywhere other than California or Florida, you’ve probably noticed that IT’S FREAKING COLD AF OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW.
And if you remember from last winter or know me personally, you know that I absolutely HATE being cold. That smile up there? That’s actually just my teeth chattering. We’ve had steady wind chills below zero this week, and it doesn’t seem like there’s an end in sight to this deep freeze (although I consider anything under 50 a deep freeze 😬).
The only good thing about the cold is that by the time it actually gets here and is here to stay for awhile, the things that we need to stay warm are on sale, so I’ve rounded up five must-haves for when the temps dip below freezing.

1. A Hooded Down Coat
This coat is by a brand called Soia & Kyo and I got it from Nordstrom (ShopBop has a great selection, too – Nordstrom has sold out of quite a few of their coats, including the one I’m wearing.). I’ve never had a coat that’s this warm before – it’s quite a splurge, but I know I’ll have this coat for years.
Here are a few of my other picks:
2. A Great Pair of Hiker Boots
So I’ve been obsessed with finding a cute pair of hiker boots over the last couple of months. For Christmas, my mom got me a pair from Free People (these ones!) that I absolutely adore. I love the fun colors of the laces (but they come with a tan color lace, too), and I love that they’re SO lightweight. Like a warm winter coat, a good, comfortable pair of hiker boots is a bit of a splurge, but they’re so very worth it if they keep your feet warm and dry. And remember, quite a few of these retailers are having massive sales right now.
A few pairs I’m loving that are stylish AND practical:
3. A Warm, Fuzzy Cardigan
I have this wrap cardigan (pictured above) from Francesca’s Collections, and it’s my absolute favorite thing in my closet right now. I have it in white, but it’s currently available in three other colors, and I’m seriously considering ordering two more (the black and the gray).
Here are a few others I’d love to wrap myself in this winter:
4. Super Cozy PJs
If you’ve lived through a winter in the Northeast, then you’re definitely no stranger to flannel jam jams. I’m always partial to Victoria’s Secret flannel PJ sets and lounge PJ sets – they’re just the right weight, they’re super cute, and they last forever (I’ve had one set since high school. High school! That was…a while ago. 😕). Both their lounge and flannel sets are on sale, so I’ll link them below. My set is on sale for $30 and is available here.
I’ve also linked a few other sets that I love:
5. An Electric Blanket
Okay, so you can’t wear this one, but trust me – you’ll want to. Chris and I lived under ours from Christmas to New Year’s. It’s a non-negotiable essential to have in my house. Bonus points because the kitties love to curl up on it, too!
We have this one, but I’ve linked a few other options:
These fleece-lined tights. Best $15 you’ll spend this winter.
What are your cozy winter essentials? Are you a fan of the cold, or are you like me and would rather never set foot in it?
Whatever you think of this weather, I hope you’re staying warm and snuggly!
